God made me this way so I have to be happy with who I am. And it’s a journey. And I embrace my brown skin.
Growing up, being black wasn’t easy. How could it be?
The media misrepresents us, the effects are felt in the real world.
The lives of black men have long been adversely affected by negative public perceptions. We are often turned away from jobs because we are not the “right fit”. While on the streets, we are regularly treated by police as dangerous suspects.
We’ve come a long way but we still have a long way to go. My hope is that this picture can remind you to be proud of your melanin. Why you should be proud of your heritage regardless of how light or dark your skin is.
